At B1 you get by. At B2 nobody notices German isn't your first language, at least not in a working day.

Hold a long conversation without either side working at it. You stop searching for words and start choosing them.

Build a position, take on counterarguments, object and stay civil. This is exactly what the speaking part of a B2 exam tests.

Get the substance of demanding writing in your own field, even when some of the vocabulary is new.

Applications, a CV, official emails, complaints, in the right register rather than merely comprehensible.

Talk to colleagues differently than to senior management. Konjunktiv I, reported speech and modal particles are what make that possible.

Your way through B2
Little at B2 is genuinely new. It's about precision: the right word order, the right register, the difference between being understood and being convincing.

Step 1 · from B1
Precision over volume
Word order in the middle field, the genitive, verbs and adjectives with prepositions. The errors people let slide at B1 become audible here, and then disappear.

Step 2 · register
Formal, informal, and in between
Konjunktiv I and reported speech, participles as adjectives, nominalization, modal particles. These are what let you sound different depending on the room.

Step 3 · on to C1
Completing B2
You consolidate everything, prepare for a certificate if you need one, and move up to C1, which runs one to one or in a pair.
Common questions before starting
I speak fluently but make mistakes. Is that B2?
Often yes. Fluency and accuracy develop separately, and at this level they've come apart for almost everyone. In the free trial lesson we listen and tell you honestly where you are.
I need B2 for work or for a certificate.
Then bring your date and your field. The plan is built backwards from the exam, the four skills are practiced separately, and the vocabulary comes from your work rather than from a textbook.
What does a lesson look like?
A lesson runs 50 minutes: 10 minutes warm-up and review, 20 minutes new material, 15 minutes speaking and practice, 5 minutes homework and feedback.
Is a group class enough at this level?
For discussion and listening a group is an advantage, because you have to hold your ground against other voices. For exam preparation or specialist vocabulary, one to one is worth it, since the time is entirely yours.
